Ghana’s Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD) concludes first batch of Girls-In-ICT programme

The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD), in collaboration with the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (GI-KACE) and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), has successfully concluded the first batch of the Girls-In-ICT programme in the Greater Accra Region. The training, which ran from June 24 to June 28, 2024, aimed to train 500 girls from upper primary and junior high schools in Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The programme, designed to encourage young girls to pursue careers in ICT and develop an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), covered modules such as Introduction to Computer Programming, Cyber Security, Animation Development, Game Development, Coding, Scratch, and Website Design. After the one-week training, participants were assessed through an inter-district competition to identify outstanding performers for further opportunities.

The first batch of 500 girls was selected from 16 districts, including Ada East, Ada West, La Nkwantang, Ayawaso West, Krowor, Ledzokuku, Tema Metro, Tema West, Ashiaman, Shai Osudoku, Adenta, Prampram, Kpone Katamanso, La Dadekotopon, Ayawaso East, and Korley Klottey.

The training program in Ada West was officially closed by Dr. Stephen Arthur, the Director of Education in Ada West. He emphasized the importance of the skills and knowledge the participants had acquired, urging them to apply their training both at work and at home. Dr. Arthur expressed gratitude to the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, and thanked MoCD, GI-KACE, and GIFEC for their support and for bringing this valuable initiative to the district.

This initiative aims to equip young girls with essential digital skills, fostering their growth and preparing them for future opportunities in the evolving digital landscape.
