The Minister of
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services (ICTPCS) and
Member of Parliament for Chikomba, Tatenda Mavetera has visited Chivi North as
part of the ongoing cybersecurity campaign activations this month. The event
aimed to educate and empower local communities about the importance of
cybersecurity in an increasingly digital world.
With an
impressive internet penetration rate exceeding 75%, the need for comprehensive
cybersecurity education has never been more critical. During her address to a
large gathering of community members, traditional leaders, and representatives
from various government departments, Minister Mavetera stated that that cyber
threats are not limited to large corporations or government entities. Instead,
they pose risks to everyday citizens, who often become unsuspecting victims of
cyberattacks. The Minister highlighted the shift in perception surrounding
cybersecurity, noting that everyone is a potential target in today’s digital
landscape.
She gave
assurance of the Government of Zimbabwe's commitment to promoting cybersecurity
and protecting the country's digital infrastructure and reiterated the
importance of collaboration between government entities and the community in
tackling cyber threats and safeguarding personal information.
As part of the
initiative, the Ministry also donated computer equipment and accessories to
enhance local capabilities and support educational efforts in the community.
