MultiChoice
Botswana has initiated discussions with the Ministry of Sport and Art (MOSA) to
explore a potential partnership aimed at enhancing the country’s creative and
sporting landscape.
The
engagement aligns with the broader strategic mission of MultiChoice Botswana,
which is actively seeking ways to contribute to the nation’s creative economy
through corporate social responsibility initiatives. Recognizing Botswana’s
wealth of untapped talent, the company is keen to collaborate with MOSA to
create platforms that showcase and commercialize local artistic and sporting
excellence.
The
Minister of Sport and Arts, Jacob Kelebeng in his remarks underscored the
Ministry’s commitment to nurturing the creative industry, emphasizing the need
for increased commercialization. He urged MultiChoice Botswana to leverage the
upcoming Botswana International Film Festival (BIFF) as a gateway to
discovering new talent in the film industry. Additionally, he encouraged the
company to source short-form local content from BIFF, which could be integrated
into platforms such as DStv to amplify Botswana’s presence in the regional
entertainment space.
The
Permanent Secretary of MOSA, Ms. Nancy Neo Chengeta in her address highlighted
the importance of strategic partnerships in building a sustainable creative
ecosystem, and noted that piracy remains a major challenge in the industry and
called for stronger measures to protect intellectual property. She also pointed
to the upcoming Grand Prix as a unique opportunity for skills transfer and
hands-on training, urging MultiChoice to support initiatives that empower local
talent.
While
this meeting primarily served as an introductory dialogue, it set the stage for
future collaboration aimed at strengthening Botswana’s sports and arts
industries. With MultiChoice Botswana expressing a strong interest in investing
in the country’s creative sector, this partnership could pave the way for a
more dynamic and commercially viable entertainment landscape.
