The
Ministry Delegate in charge of the Digital Economy and Innovation (MDENI) of
Djibouti, in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social
Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) has organized a high-level workshop in the country. Themed "Digital Government and Emerging Technologies – Policy
and Impact," the workshop convened government officials and international
digital experts to assess the nation's digital progress and explore the
potential of emerging technologies in governance.
The event
was officially inaugurated by Mariam Hamadou Ali, Minister of Digital Economy
and Innovation, who emphasized the workshop's role in advancing Djibouti’s
"Smart Nation" vision. She underscored the significance of strategic
partnerships, particularly with ESCWA, in fostering a digitally enabled society
and highlighted initiatives such as the training of 400 public sector and civil
society executives through Coursera.

Key
discussions centered on the impact of digitalization on governance and citizen
services, with an evaluation of Djibouti’s progress measured against
international and regional indicators. Experts explored the implications of
artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT)
in reshaping government functions and public service delivery.
Recognizing
the crucial role of startups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in driving
economic growth, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to
fostering a thriving digital economy. Participants delved into strategies for
leveraging innovation to create sustainable employment opportunities and
enhance Djibouti's global competitiveness.

The
workshop concluded with key recommendations aimed at accelerating Djibouti's
integration into the global digital ecosystem. The Minister expressed her
gratitude to ESCWA and the Ministère of Economy and Finance in charge of
Industry for their strategic support in shaping a digitally inclusive future
for Djibouti.
