The Director
General of the Regional African Satellite Communications Organization (RASCOM),
Mr. Timothy Ashong, met with Hon. Sam Nartey George, Minister of Communication,
Digital Technology, and Innovations, in Accra, Ghana, to discuss strengthening
cooperation in satellite communications.
During the
meeting, Mr. Ashong provided an overview of RASCOM’s mission to deliver
cost-effective and efficient telecommunications services to underserved areas
across Africa. Since its establishment in 1992, RASCOM has been dedicated to
bridging the digital divide on the continent. He sought Ghana’s support for
RASCOM in high-level ministerial and presidential discussions on satellite
communications at international forums. Additionally, he discussed Ghana’s
participation in the upcoming 15th RASCOM Assembly of Parties, scheduled to
take place at the African Space Agency headquarters in New Cairo, Egypt, on
April 20, 2025.

As part of
these discussions, Mr. Ashong extended an official invitation to Hon. Sam
Nartey George to attend the Assembly of Parties. This significant gathering
will bring together representatives from RASCOM member states to deliberate on
key policy matters and the future of satellite communications in Africa.

George commended RASCOM for its efforts in advancing Africa’s
telecommunications sector and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting its
initiatives. He also confirmed his attendance at the Assembly of Parties,
underscoring Ghana’s dedication to strengthening regional collaboration in
satellite communications.
This engagement
represents a significant step forward in reinforcing the partnership between
RASCOM and Ghana. Through continued collaboration, both parties aim to enhance
Africa’s satellite connectivity, foster economic growth, and bridge the digital
divide.
