Ethiopia’s
Ministry of Innovation and Technology has taken a significant step toward
AI-driven modernization by engaging in high-level talks with a Chinese
delegation led by the Director of the African Village Management Committee. The
discussions, chaired by Minister of State Dr. Yeshurun Alemayehu, focused on
leveraging artificial intelligence to transform Ethiopia’s business and service
sectors.

The meeting
highlighted Ethiopia’s growing advancements in AI technology as a catalyst for
economic growth. Dr. Alemayehu noted the government’s commitment to fostering
international partnerships, stating, “Ethiopia is actively collaborating
with global institutions to harness AI for national development and ensure
widespread benefits.”
The Chinese
delegation expressed strong interest in supporting Ethiopia’s digital
transformation, particularly in modernizing commercial and service delivery
systems through AI solutions. Both parties agreed to establish a joint
technical committee and draft a memorandum of understanding to formalize
cooperation.

This
partnership aligns with Ethiopia’s Digital Economy Strategy, which prioritizes
AI adoption in agriculture, logistics, and public services. The collaboration
could position Ethiopia as a regional leader in AI applications tailored to
African development needs.
