Telecommunications
giant MTN Group and tech leader Meta have launched a groundbreaking partnership
to significantly enhance voice and video call quality on platforms like
WhatsApp across 12 African markets. This innovative collaboration combines
network optimization with advanced data analytics to deliver superior real-time
communication experiences for millions of users.
The technical
initiative focuses on creating synergy between application-aware networks and
network-aware applications, addressing critical pain points in mobile calling.
Since initial discussions at Mobile World Congress 2024, engineering teams from
both companies have developed targeted solutions that improve call stability
and clarity while maintaining efficient data traffic management.
Nigeria serves
as the pilot market, where implementation has already yielded impressive
results – including 50% improvements in key performance metrics. "These
enhancements demonstrate our commitment to transforming digital experiences
across Africa," stated Yahaya Ibrahim, Chief Technology Officer at MTN
Nigeria.
Diego Marí,
Meta's Head of Network Ecosystems Engineering, emphasized the partnership's
potential to set new standards for mobile communication quality continent-wide.
The success in Nigeria paves the way for rollout across 11 additional MTN
markets, promising to redefine real-time connectivity for Africa's rapidly
growing digital population.
