MTN Uganda has joined
Next Media and associated media platforms in the Ugandan capital city Kampala to
launch the “Berra-Steady – Be Better” campaign with the aim of increasing
financial literacy, preventing digital fraud, and protecting the daily income of
Ugandans.
According to a brief
statement on its social media LinkedIn platform, MTN Uganda believes that with
its extensive network and over 17 million active subscribers, the campaign is poised
to reach a broad audience and empower citizens with the knowledge they need
to safeguard their digital financial resources.
This campaign which is being spearheaded by Next Media and
supported by regulators the Bank of Uganda and the Uganda Communications
Commission is expected to offer a platform for all partners to address digital
literacy and teach customers how they can protect their money from fraudsters.
Speaking at the launch of this campaign, the Chief Executive Officer of Next
Media, Kin Kariisa in emphasizing the importance of the Beera Steady campaign
said the campaign will not only protect the customers digitally but also ensure
that the space is safe and secure in real-time for use.
During her remarks, the Executive Director of the
Uganda Communication Commission, Irene Kaggwa Sewankambo said ''When we use the
media, they take the message and bring it down to the everyday person to help
them understand.''
On his part the Executive Director of the Uganda Banker's Association,
Wilbrod Owor gave his support to the campaign, saying it will help build trust
and adoption. 'If we do not safeguard digital service, we will be left out.
On her part the Permanent Secretary
at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Amina Zawedde warned that digital
fraud is done through social engineering & the public must be careful. 'The
media houses have come together, and I still call upon others to join so that
we speak to the public as one' she stated.
