Yas Tanzania has partnered with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Tanzania and other stakeholders to commemorate Girls in ICT Day in Dodoma, reinforcing efforts to promote female participation in the digital economy.

The initiative forms part of the company’s broader commitment to empowering young women through its Girls and Young Women Empowerment Project, launched in 2020. According to the company, the programme has reached more than 125,800 girls and young women across 13 regions in Tanzania.

Officials said the initiative has produced measurable outcomes, with over 600 participants developing technology-driven solutions, many of which have evolved into startups addressing local challenges. More than 150 young women have transitioned into formal employment within the ICT sector, while others have pursued further education in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

Participants have also gained international recognition through achievements such as the ITU World Summit on the Information Society Awards, the First Robotics Challenge, the Anzisha Prize, the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship and the Rise Scholarship.

The event in Dodoma brought together partners and stakeholders to reflect on progress made and to explore strategies for scaling impact and improving outcomes. Discussions highlighted the importance of moving beyond access to technology, focusing instead on enabling meaningful participation and long-term career development for young women.

Yas Tanzania said it remains committed to advancing inclusive digital transformation by expanding opportunities for girls and young women to acquire skills, access employment and contribute to innovation within the digital ecosystem.
