Kenyan telecommunications
company Safaricom PLC has reaffirmed Africa’s growing role in shaping the
future of global business following discussions at the Academy of International
Business (AIB) Conference hosted by Strathmore Business School.
Speaking during the
conference, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa reflected on the
continent’s transformation through innovation, resilience, and collaboration,
emphasizing that Africa is increasingly becoming a co-creator of global
solutions rather than merely catching up with international trends.

Dr. Ndegwa highlighted the
evolution of M-PESA from a mobile money transfer platform into a broader
ecosystem that continues to advance financial inclusion across the region. He
noted that supportive government policies, strong public-private partnerships,
and human-centred technological development remain critical to driving
sustainable digital transformation across Africa.
According to Safaricom, the
conference created an important platform for scholars, policymakers, business
leaders, and industry practitioners to exchange ideas on Africa’s contribution
to the future of global commerce and innovation.

The discussions also focused
on how African institutions and businesses can continue to lead through
inclusive innovation and strategic collaboration while addressing emerging
economic and technological challenges.
Safaricom expressed
appreciation to Strathmore Business School for hosting the event, describing
the forum as meaningful and timely in advancing conversations around Africa’s
growing influence in the global business landscape.
