The
SAMENA Telecommunications Council has announced the inclusion of MTN Group as a
new member, marking a further expansion of its platform for regional and global
telecommunications policy engagement.
MTN
Group will be represented in the Council by its Group Chief Legal and
Regulatory Officer, Lele Modise, a recognised industry professional featured in
international legal and regulatory rankings.
As
a pan-African digital operator, MTN Group is expected to contribute practical
insights drawn from its operations across multiple African markets, where
infrastructure development, digital inclusion, regulatory frameworks and
cross-border connectivity remain closely interconnected.
Through
its participation in the Council, MTN aims to engage in discussions on key
sector priorities including infrastructure resilience and protection,
sustainable investment models, data governance, cybersecurity, artificial
intelligence readiness and policy frameworks designed to support long-term
sector growth and inclusive digital development.
Lele
Modise stated that MTN’s involvement reflects its commitment to contributing to
industry dialogue that supports resilient networks in an increasingly complex
geopolitical and technological environment, while promoting investment-friendly
policy environments and inclusive digital growth.
SAMENA
Council CEO Bocar Ba welcomed MTN Group’s membership, noting that the company’s
experience as a major infrastructure investor and provider of connectivity and
fintech services across Africa would add significant value to ongoing regional
discussions aimed at strengthening secure, sustainable and investment-ready
digital ecosystems.
