MTN Uganda and EBus Xpress
Kiira Ltd have launched a new electric bus route in Kira Municipality,
introducing commuters to a more convenient and cashless public transport
experience.
The partnership combines
electric mobility, connectivity and digital payments to support more
sustainable and digitally enabled urban transport in Uganda.
Speaking at the launch,
Ibrahim Senyonga, General Manager of the Enterprise Business Unit at MTN Uganda,
highlighted the role of digital payments in improving the commuter experience
and enabling smarter and more convenient journeys.
The new route provides
commuters with access to electric buses while allowing them to make cashless
payments for their journeys, supporting the wider adoption of digital financial
services in public transportation.
The launch was attended by
Rt. Hon. Eng. Asiimwe Jonard, Minister in the Office of the President
responsible for Science, Technology and Innovation, and Minsa Kabanda, Minister
for Kampala Capital City and Metropolitan Affairs.
Through the MTN Uganda and
EBus Xpress partnership, the companies aim to make everyday travel more
convenient for communities by bringing together innovation, connectivity and
digital payments within the public transport system.
