Benin has reaffirmed its
ambition to leverage the opportunities presented by the space sector to support
the structural transformation of its economy following its participation in the
first International Space Summit held in Paris on September 9 and 10, 2026.
Benin was represented at the
international meeting by a high-level delegation led by Mahuna Akplogan,
Minister of Digital Transition and Innovation, in charge of the National
Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
The summit provided a
platform for discussions on enhanced international cooperation in the space
sector, with participants exploring ways to promote the responsible use of
space and its applications for the benefit of societies and economies.
Benin’s participation
reflects the country’s growing interest in the strategic opportunities offered
by space technologies and applications, particularly as it seeks to advance
digital transformation and strengthen innovation-driven development.
The country said its
engagement in the summit reinforces its commitment to taking full advantage of
the opportunities offered by the space sector while supporting efforts to
ensure that space activities and applications contribute to broader economic
and development objectives.
