Google has reaffirmed its
commitment to supporting Kenya’s digital transformation through investments and
partnerships focused on digital infrastructure, skills development and pathways
to economic opportunity across Africa.
The commitment was
highlighted following a meeting between Alex Okosi, Managing Director for
Africa at Google, and Kenyan President William Ruto during the American Chamber
of Commerce (AmCham) Business Summit in Nairobi last week.
Okosi said Google and the
Kenyan government were aligned on the need to accelerate the development of
Kenya’s digital infrastructure, while recognising the potential of the
country’s young population to drive innovation and economic growth.
“We’re completely aligned on
what it takes to accelerate Kenya’s digital infrastructure. The talent and
drive of Kenya's youth are undeniable,” Okosi said.
He said Google remained
committed to working with partners across Africa to strengthen the
infrastructure, skills and pathways needed to accelerate growth and create
greater opportunities for young people and businesses.
“At Google, we remain
committed to working with partners across the continent to build the
infrastructure, skills and pathways to accelerate growth and create greater
opportunities across Africa,” he said.
Okosi also acknowledged
Michael Murungi and Pascal M. for joining the discussions, and thanked
President Ruto for what he described as the continued partnership between Kenya
and Google.
