The International
Telecommunication Union (ITU) has reiterated the importance of international
cooperation in ensuring that artificial intelligence delivers benefits for
people around the world.
The message emerged from an
informal gathering of the AI for Good Global Commission held last week, as AI
remains high on the agenda of leaders, policymakers, industry stakeholders and
the United Nations Security Council.
The ITU said the discussions
reinforced a simple principle: international cooperation is essential if AI is
to benefit everyone.
The gathering comes as
governments, policymakers, industry and international institutions continue to
engage on the opportunities and challenges presented by the rapid development
and deployment of artificial intelligence.
The ITU’s AI for Good
platform continues to bring stakeholders together around efforts to ensure that
AI contributes to positive outcomes for society and supports broader global
development objectives.
