United Nations Tech Envoy
Amandeep Gill has called for minimum artificial intelligence safety standards,
independent testing and transparent incident reporting as AI systems become
more capable and autonomous.
Speaking on the opening day
of the 11th Singapore International Cyber Week, Gill stressed that every
country needs the capacity to test AI systems, whether built domestically or
acquired from elsewhere, to ensure they remain safe, accountable and subject to
human oversight.
“In this AI world, trust
should be seen as hard infrastructure,” Gill said, highlighting the importance
of building trust as AI systems continue to develop.
The United Nations Office
for Digital and Emerging Technologies shared his remarks and referred readers
to The Straits Times’ coverage of the address.
