Ghana’s Minister for
Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, has
commended the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) as a “gold standard” for compliance
with government information technology procurement regulations.
During a working visit to
GoldBod, the minister praised the Board for proactively seeking technical
clearance from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) even before
the President issued a directive on IT procurement compliance.
He encouraged other public
institutions to emulate GoldBod’s example and reaffirmed the Ministry’s
commitment to supporting the Board’s digital transformation, cybersecurity and
data protection efforts.
GoldBod Chief Executive
Officer Sammy Gyamfi expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s technical
support, particularly in developing the Board’s online licensing application
system, which has reduced human involvement in the licensing process.
Gyamfi also disclosed that
GoldBod was nearing the award of a contract for its proposed gold traceability
system.
He further announced plans
to introduce an Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Formalisation and Financing
Support Programme in January 2027.
The programme will leverage
technology to support responsible mining, monitor equipment and financial
assistance provided to miners, and promote environmental compliance.
