The Eswatini Communications
Commission (ESCCOM) has launched the 2027 High Schools’ Film Competition,
introducing a new format designed to develop young people’s creativity,
storytelling abilities and technical skills while strengthening the country’s
growing creative industry.
The second edition of the
competition, delivered in partnership with FNB Eswatini and the Eswatini
National Commission for UNESCO, features the Mystery Frame Challenge, which
will require learners to transform a single mystery image into an original 90-second
film.
The competition will run
until March 2027 and includes an enhanced prize package to encourage
participation and recognise creative talent among high school learners.
The initiative builds on the
success of its inaugural edition, which provided approximately 120 high school
learners with hands-on filmmaking experience in scriptwriting, acting,
directing, cinematography and sound recording.
It also engaged 16
university students from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and Limkokwing
University, creating opportunities for mentorship, collaboration and industry
exposure.
Through the competition,
ESCCOM and its partners aim to empower young storytellers with creative and
digital skills, contributing to the development of a vibrant local content
industry and the next generation of filmmakers, producers and creative entrepreneurs.
