Nairobi, Kenya - GE
Healthcare, a New York-listed firm, and Kenya-based tech startup Afya Rekod have
announced a strategic collaboration that seeks to transform care delivery
through improved access to personal health in Africa.
The collaboration
according to officials will not only help simplify access to medical records to
enhance the patient experience but will also transform healthcare delivery and
help improve patient care across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Through
an app, both parties will be able to access imaging files and test results on
their phones in real-time.
Speaking
during a brief signing ceremony, the General Manager Sub-Sahara Africa for GE
Healthcare, Eyong Ebai said “With our collaboration with startup Afya Rekod, we
will work on data accessibility to help create insights for better, more
targeted, more individualized patient care. Startups, the private sector, and
the public must all come together to further Sub-Sahara Africa’s digital healthcare
journey, to the benefit of millions of people. This app and partnership support
that journey.
In his
remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Afya Rekod, John Kamara said the partnership
will allow for a seamless flow of data from the equipment directly to the app
and into the patient’s hands.
“This app
will also allow clinicians to view data and share with other experts, enabling
them to make better and informed diagnoses and decisions,” he said.
GE Healthcare
has supported Africa’s healthcare journey for decades through the provision of technology
and solutions, cementing partnerships, and supporting training.
