The Global Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE) has launched the GFCE Africa Hub, a collaboration between the African Union and the GFCE which aims to support the African Union member states in strengthening their cyber resilience. As part of this objective, the hub will strive to enhance cyber capacity building within these countries, through a better understanding of cyber capacity opportunities and challenges. The GFCE Africa Hub is the latest addition to the current regional hubs in Southeast Asia, Pacific, Americas & Carribean, and Europe.

These hubs serve as global regional focal points for cyber capacity-building and also ensure that all regions around the globe have access to relevant cyber expertise and resources. The GFCE Africa Hub was launched at the first Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building (GC3B) on 29-30 November 2023 in Accra, Ghana.

Platform for cybersecurity stakeholders

The GFCE Africa Hub aims to address the critical need for strengthening cyber capacity building and cyber resilience in Africa. It will provide a central and collaborative platform for cybersecurity stakeholders to share knowledge, resources and best practices, to improve Africa's cyber resilience and reduce cyber threats. Through the Africa Hub, GFCE hopes to establish a network of cybersecurity experts and organizations across Africa that will work closely with African Union member states governments, the private sector, academia, research and development institutions, civil society and other non-governmental organizations to build local capacity, promote cybersecurity awareness and develop innovative solutions to counter global cyber threats.

Unifying efforts towards enhancing local and regional cyber capacity

The establishment of the GFCE Africa Hub is not only timely but a much-needed initiative that will hold significant potential for enhancing cyber capacity building and resilience in Africa. It will enable a cohesive and strategic approach to unify the efforts of Africa's cybersecurity stakeholders towards enhancing local and regional capacity, promoting awareness, sharing information and expertise, and developing innovative solutions. It will also enable knowledge sharing, collaboration, clearing house process and capacity building in enhancing cybersecurity capabilities in a converged and sustainable manner in Africa.
