Accra, Ghana - The Chief Executive Officer of Jobberman Ghana, Hilda Nimo-Tieku, has admonished young graduates and students who have ambitions to pursue a career in ICT to consider soft skills as essential employability traits.
She said this at the one-day Tech Job Fair event organized by the Institute of ICT Professionals, Ghana, in partnership with Digicap and Afos Foundation, at the Accra International Conference Center, with the theme “Connecting Tech Skills with the right business in the fast-growing ICT Sector”.
Hilda stressed that although employers always lookout for very skilled people who can add value to their businesses, one key attribute employers consider when choosing the right fit for the job is soft skills and that young graduates must pay critical attention to it.
“ICT professionals are very tech-savvy and know their job very well, but you must remember that to be employable in the world of work, you need these soft skills to succeed as professionals. These soft skills include; communication skills, organizational skills, skills, problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills, project management skills; ie collaborative and time management skills and you must be a resourceful person. These are employability skills which set you apart from others and that’s what employers want.”
Giving an overview of the recent 2021 jobs bulletin report released by Jobberman, she explained that Software & Data, and Engineering and Technology roles were the most popular jobs on the Jobberman platform. Adding that almost every sector needs professionals in the ICT sector, including Banking, Hospitality, Education, E-commerce, Mining and Ernergy, Manufactring, as well as Human Resource and Recruitment.
David Gowu, Executive Director, Institute of ICT Professionals, Ghana, on his part, explained that Technology has become a wing in every business in the world, since digitization is the order of the day, and it has become necessary that young graduates and students in the field of ICT especially in Ghana, get aligned with the world of work and the opportunities available to them.
The fair brought together a large number of students and young graduates and companies who are ICT inclined, including Jobberman Ghana.
During a break out session, Michael Akwasi Gyimah, Head of recruitment and Genevieve Amponsah, Community Marketer at Jobberman facilitated the special CV writing and soft skills session to sensitize a section of participants at the job fair on the need for a winning CV and how to land a job in the ICT industry.
