The Moroccan
Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, Ghita Mezzour, has
signed a partnership agreement to establish an innovation center dedicated to
cybersecurity. The signing ceremony occurred on the first day of the second
edition of GITEX Africa, hosted in Marrakech under the high patronage of His
Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him.
This pivotal
agreement brings together multiple stakeholders, including the Ministry of
Digital Transition and Administration Reform, the Ministry of Higher Education,
Scientific Research and Innovation, the National Defense Administration, and
Mohammed V University in Rabat. The collaboration aims to strengthen
entrepreneurship and foster startups specializing in cybersecurity, positioning
Morocco as a leader in the field.
The newly
established innovation center is set to play a crucial role in enhancing
research, development, and innovation in cybersecurity. It will serve as a hub
for fostering cooperation and synergy between various programs and actors
involved in cybersecurity innovation and research. By supporting research and
innovation initiatives on both national and international levels, the center
aims to create a robust ecosystem for cybersecurity advancements.
Minister
Ghita Mezzour noted the importance of the initiative in addressing the growing
cybersecurity challenges faced by nations worldwide. "In today's digital age, cybersecurity is paramount. This
innovation center will not only support our national security infrastructure
but also drive economic growth by fostering a new generation of cybersecurity
entrepreneurs and researchers," she stated.
The
partnership agreement signifies a concerted effort by Moroccan authorities to
prioritize cybersecurity and digital innovation. The center will offer
resources and support for startups and entrepreneurs, providing them with the
necessary tools to develop cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions. Additionally,
it will facilitate collaborations between academic institutions, industry players,
and government bodies to address the most pressing cybersecurity issues.
Through this
initiative, Morocco aims to enhance its cybersecurity posture, ensuring the
protection of critical infrastructure and digital assets. The innovation center
is expected to attract top talent and investments, further solidifying
Morocco's position as a hub for technological innovation in Africa and beyond.
