Nigeria moves closer to digitization as National Digital Economy & e-Governance Bill passes first reading

In a significant milestone towards harnessing the power of technology for economic growth and development, the National Digital Economy & e-Governance Bill has passed its first reading in the National Assembly.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. 'Bosun Tijani, has congratulated Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salis, Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT & Cybercrimes, and Rep. Stanley Adedeji Olajide, Chairman of the House Committee on Information & Technology, on this achievement.

The passage of the bill marks a crucial step towards creating a legal framework that supports the development of Nigeria's digital economy and e-governance infrastructure. The bill aims to promote the use of technology to enhance public service delivery, improve transparency and accountability, and drive economic growth.

To ensure the successful passage of the bill into law, the Ministry will embark on a nationwide consultation process, engaging with stakeholders across various sectors. This series of engagements will kick off in the coming days, providing a platform for inputs and suggestions from diverse perspectives.

Dr. Tijani expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between the Executive and Legislative arms of government, stating, "This milestone is a testament to our collective commitment to harnessing the potential of technology for national development. We look forward to working together to ensure the successful passage of the bill into law."
