Ethiopia unveils cutting-edge technology hub in Quality Village

The Ethiopian Technology Authority has officially commenced operations at its state-of-the-art facility within Quality Village, marking a significant milestone in the nation's technological advancement. The inauguration ceremony brought together key government figures including Dr. Beleta Molla, Minister of Innovation and Technology, and Dr. Kasahun Gonfe, Minister of Trade and Regional Linkages, underscoring the facility's strategic importance. 

Spanning 7.2 hectares, the world-class complex features 20 modern buildings housing over 150 advanced laboratories, all equipped with the latest technological systems. The facility's design incorporates four specialized access points and includes a modernized radioactive sludge storage center, establishing Ethiopia as a regional leader in technological infrastructure. 

"This facility represents more than physical infrastructure – it's the foundation for Ethiopia's digital future," stated Dr. Beleta during the launch. The Minister emphasized how Quality Village will enhance technological regulation, research capabilities, and innovation ecosystems while ensuring safety standards across emerging technologies. 

Dr. Kasahun highlighted the long-term vision behind the project: "Quality Village embodies our commitment to building an economy of substance and a technologically empowered society. These facilities will serve generations of Ethiopians in their pursuit of excellence." 

Solomon Getachew, Director-General of the Ethiopian Technology Authority, confirmed the institution's readiness to deliver enhanced technology control services from the new headquarters. The facility's activation fulfills a vision set in motion with its 2017 inauguration by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, who was recognized during the event for his pivotal role in the project's realization. 

As Ethiopia positions itself as an East African technology hub, Quality Village stands as a tangible manifestation of the country's ambitions. The complex is expected to accelerate innovation, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and foster partnerships between government, academia, and private sector technology developers – all critical components in Ethiopia's digital transformation roadmap.
