The Kingdom of
Eswatini and the Republic of South Africa have solidified a strategic
partnership aimed at accelerating inclusive and secure digital economies. The
Honourable Minister of Information, Communications and Technology of Eswatini,
Savannah Maziya, met with South Africa’s Minister of Communications and Digital
Technologies, Hon. Solly Malatsi, in Pretoria to sign a Declaration of Intent,
marking a new era of bilateral cooperation in the digital sector.

The agreement
establishes a framework for collaboration across critical areas of the digital
economy, including ICT policy alignment, broadband infrastructure expansion,
cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, e-Government services, and digital
skills development.
Key priorities
under the agreement include harmonizing ICT policies and regulations, advancing
joint research in AI and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies, and
improving broadband access for underserved communities. The two nations will
also strengthen cybersecurity frameworks, enhance digital literacy programs particularly
for youth and women—and share expertise in media, broadcasting, and content
creation. Additionally, the ministers explored modernizing postal services to
support e-commerce growth, financial inclusion, and regional economic
integration.

A technical
working group from both countries will now develop a detailed implementation
roadmap to translate the agreement into actionable initiatives. This
collaboration underscores Eswatini’s proactive role in Africa’s digital
transformation and aligns with broader continental goals of fostering
resilient, future-ready societies.
With this
alliance, both nations are poised to drive meaningful progress in bridging the
digital divide and unlocking new opportunities for sustainable
development.
