Ghana’s telecommunication regulator, the National
Communications Authority (NCA), is hosting their Ivorian counterpart, the
Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (ARTCI) in Accra for a three-day
regulatory meeting.
The meeting is expected to end on Wednesday 22, February
2023. According to a post on the official Linkedin social media platform of NCA
is aimed at initiating a pilot that allows Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) in
both Ghana and Ivory Coast to activate and test all the roaming services under
the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Roaming Regulation.
“This morning, before
the commencement of the meeting, the delegation from Ivory Coast paid a
courtesy call on the Director General, Mr. Joe Anokye who was represented by
the Deputy Directors General, Dr. Ezer Osei Yeboah-Boateng and Madam Olivia
Okailey Quartey,” it stated.
Meanwhile, the NCA has confirmed in a statement issued
on Tuesday that it has given final approval for the transfer of the 70%
majority shares in Vodafone Ghana held by Vodafone Group Plc to the Telecel
Group.
“The final approval follows the
satisfaction of conditions outlined in the conditional approval of the shares
transfer, including the agreement of the Government of Ghana, who remain the
30% minority shareholder,”
the statement said.
It then noted that the authority
will continue to guide the takeover process in accordance with the existing
License conditions of Vodafone Ghana while ensuring that the interests of
consumers are held paramount.
