The School of
Engineering Sciences, University of Ghana has announced the successful
deployment of a digital attendance system designed to modernise classroom
management and improve verification processes.
The system, known as SignAttendance, was developed by Toussaint Afadolo, a Level 400 student in the
Department of Materials Science and Engineering and former Vice President of
the Engineering Students’ Union of the University of Ghana (ESUG).
SignAttendance replaces traditional paper-based
registers with a technology-driven solution that incorporates QR code sign-ins,
real-time selfie verification, GPS geofencing, elevation checks, and two-factor
authentication for lecturers. The system is designed to enhance accuracy,
reduce fraud, and streamline attendance tracking in academic settings.
Following a demonstration of the
platform, the Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences provided
recommendations for further refinement and expressed support for its broader
adoption across the school. Plans are underway to begin implementation in the next
academic semester.
The
development highlights growing student-led innovation within the University of
Ghana, as institutions increasingly adopt digital tools to address
administrative and academic challenges.
