Ethiopia and Russia have
discussed opportunities to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence,
research and development, human resource development and technology transfer
following a visit by Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terkin to the Ethiopian
Institute of Artificial Intelligence.
During the visit, the
Institute’s Director General, Werku Gachena, briefed the ambassador on the
institution’s work in supporting Ethiopia’s digital transformation agenda.
Gachena highlighted the
Institute’s research and development activities, noting that its work has
contributed to progress in priority social and economic sectors across the
country.
The discussions also focused
on strengthening bilateral technology cooperation between Ethiopia and Russia,
with Ambassador Terkin reaffirming the longstanding relationship between the
two countries.
Terkin said Ethiopia and
Russia would explore collaboration in research and development, skills and
human resource development, as well as technology transfer.
The proposed cooperation
also aligns with wider efforts among BRICS member states to promote
collaboration in artificial intelligence and leverage emerging technologies to
support economic development and shared growth.
