Digital
Africa, a France-backed venture platform supporting African tech ecosystems,
has officially launched its activities in Mozambique under the African-European
Digital Innovation Bridge (AEDIB) framework, marking a new phase of engagement
with the country’s startup ecosystem.
The
launch was announced following a high-level meeting in Maputo involving
representatives of Digital Africa, French Ambassador to Mozambique Yann
Pradeau, Expertise France, and the French Development Agency Agence Française
de Développement, alongside cultural services of the French Embassy.
A
key outcome of the engagement was the official rollout of the Fuze Challenge, a
startup competition supported under the AEDIB 2.0 programme. The initiative
will run on the sidelines of the Maputo Business Forum scheduled for 9 June,
bringing together selected startups to compete for support and investment
opportunities. Digital Africa has confirmed that at least one high-potential
startup emerging from the challenge will receive investment support.
The
discussions also focused on strengthening Mozambique’s broader digital and
entrepreneurial ecosystem, with stakeholders exploring pathways for deeper
collaboration between public institutions, development agencies, and innovation
partners. According to participants, the objective is to accelerate startup
growth and expand access to funding, mentorship, and cross-border market
opportunities.
Digital
Africa noted that it has already supported more than 70 startups across over 15
African countries, with Mozambique now positioned as its next strategic focus
market as momentum builds around the Maputo Business Forum.
