Kenya has reaffirmed its
commitment to strengthening regional cooperation in information and
communications technology (ICT) during the African Telecommunications Union
(ATU) Conference Preparatory Committee (CPC) meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria.
The Kenyan delegation, led
by Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary Stephen Isaboke,
participated in discussions that will shape key decisions at the 7th Ordinary
Session of the ATU Plenipotentiary Conference.
Addressing the committee,
Isaboke commended the ATU Secretariat and member states for the progress made
during the union's 2023–2026 strategic cycle and reiterated Kenya's support for
deeper collaboration to advance Africa's digital transformation agenda.
The preparatory committee
reviewed the ATU Strategic and Financial Plan for the 2027–2031 period and
discussed Africa's preparations for the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU) Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-26), which is scheduled to take place later
this year.
The meeting also laid the
groundwork for major decisions to be considered during the ATU Plenipotentiary
Conference, including the election of a new ATU Secretary-General and the
adoption of Africa's Common Proposals for the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference.
Kenya said it remains
committed to working with regional partners to promote digital transformation,
expand connectivity, strengthen ICT cooperation and support inclusive
socio-economic development across the African continent.
