Gabon’s Ministry of Digital
Economy, Digitalization and Innovation has outlined a new set of priorities
aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation, strengthening
governance of strategic digital projects and expanding access to digital services.
The priorities were
discussed during the ministry’s final Technical Committee meeting before the
start of the new administrative year, chaired by Minister Mark-Alexandre Doumba
and attended by the ministry’s Directorates-General, agencies under its supervision
and senior officials under the coordination of Secretary General Aline Sylvie
Minko-Mi-Etoua.
The meeting reviewed the
progress of the ministry’s flagship projects, assessed achievements made so far
and identified strategic actions that will guide implementation efforts in the
coming months.
Among the key areas
discussed was the strengthening of governance for digital transformation
projects to ensure effective implementation and improved coordination across
government institutions.
Officials also reviewed the
development of Gabix, the government's digital platform, alongside ongoing
investments in digital infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and
expanding access to digital services across the country.
The Technical Committee
further examined the ministry’s institutional digital content strategy and
initiatives to strengthen Gabon’s digital diplomacy as the country seeks a more
active role in regional and international digital governance.
Preparations for Gabon’s
candidature to governance bodies of the International Telecommunication Union
(ITU) and participation in the African Digital Ministers’ Council were also
discussed as part of efforts to enhance the country’s influence in shaping continental
and global digital policy.
The committee reviewed
progress on universal service initiatives being implemented in collaboration
with the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (ARCEP),
including measures to improve access to telecommunications services and enhance
public understanding of digital technologies.
Discussions also focused on
strengthening educational institutions under the ministry’s supervision to
build national capacity in digital professions and equip more young people with
skills required for the digital economy.
Minister Doumba reiterated
that the ministry’s digital transformation agenda is ultimately aimed at
improving the daily lives of Gabonese citizens through better connectivity,
wider access to digital public services, more efficient public administration and
increased opportunities for innovation, employment and entrepreneurship.
He commended the ministry’s
departments and affiliated agencies for the progress achieved while urging them
to maintain momentum and accelerate implementation of ongoing reforms.
