Zimbabwe has outlined its
digital transformation priorities at the CSZ NEXTCON 2026 Public Sector
Roundtable and Ministerial Fireside held in Johannesburg, South Africa, with
government leaders and technology industry stakeholders discussing strategies to
accelerate Africa’s digital development.
Zimbabwe’s Minister of
Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Hon. Tatenda
Mavetera, represented the country at the conference, which brought together
policymakers, public sector leaders, and global technology companies to explore
practical approaches for advancing digital transformation.
The minister participated in
discussions alongside South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Communications and
Digital Technologies, Hon. Mondli Gungubele, as well as representatives from
global technology companies including AWS, Cloudflare, Sophos, Vodacom, AlgoSec,
PeopleCert, and WSO2.
During the engagement,
Mavetera emphasised that successful digital transformation goes beyond
technology adoption, requiring solutions that improve public services, create
economic opportunities, and empower citizens.
She highlighted Zimbabwe’s
focus on expanding nationwide digital infrastructure, promoting artificial
intelligence, innovation and research, strengthening cybersecurity and digital
resilience, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and startups through
digital technologies, and developing digital skills for the Fourth Industrial
Revolution.
The minister also stressed
the importance of regional collaboration in building an inclusive digital
economy that enables African countries to benefit from emerging technologies.
