The Governor of the Bank of
Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has called for a disciplined business rescue
framework that supports viable enterprises while safeguarding financial
stability.
Dr. Asiama made the call at
the Bank of Ghana–Chartered Institute of Restructuring and Insolvency
Practitioners (CIRIP) Ghana Forum on Non-Performing Loans and Post-Commencement
Financing held at Bank Square on 4 August 2026.
Addressing participants at
the forum, the Governor emphasised the importance of developing effective
mechanisms for managing distressed businesses and addressing challenges
associated with non-performing loans within the financial sector.
He noted that
post-commencement financing, which provides funding to businesses undergoing
restructuring or insolvency proceedings, must be guided by commercial
viability, transparency, sound credit risk management, and accountability.
Dr. Asiama stressed the need
for stronger collaboration among financial institutions, insolvency
practitioners, regulators, and other stakeholders to establish a predictable
and risk-sensitive framework for business recovery.
According to the Governor,
such collaboration will contribute to strengthening Ghana’s financial system,
improving confidence in the restructuring process, and supporting sustainable
economic growth.
The forum brought together
stakeholders from the banking, insolvency, and financial sectors to discuss
approaches for improving the management of distressed assets and enhancing
frameworks for corporate recovery in Ghana.
