ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau reviews CIS regional initiatives at Kyrgyzstan meetings

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has reviewed progress on regional telecommunications initiatives for the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) during meetings held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, participated in the 51st meeting of the RCC Commission for Coordination of International Cooperation and the 59th meeting of the Working Group on Cooperation with the ITU.

The meetings provided an opportunity to assess regional cooperation and discuss the implementation of telecommunications development priorities affecting the CIS region.

Zavazava expressed appreciation to the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications (RCC) for coordinating the region’s collective proposals for the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC-25).

He said the coordination contributed to discussions on the region’s priorities and supported the inclusion of CIS interests in the outcomes of WTDC-25.

The ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau Director also provided an update on progress in implementing the Regional Initiatives for the CIS region adopted during WTDC-25.

The discussions form part of ongoing cooperation between the ITU and regional stakeholders aimed at advancing telecommunications development and ensuring that regional priorities are reflected in international digital development processes.

The meetings in Kyrgyzstan underscore the continued role of regional coordination in implementing global telecommunications development commitments and strengthening cooperation between the ITU and CIS countries.
