The Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT and SNV have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation and accelerate practical solutions for the transformation of Africa’s agri-food systems.

The agreement was signed in Kigali during the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFS Forum) by Alliance Director General Juan Lucas Restrepo Ibiza and SNV Chief Executive Officer Simon O’Connell.

The partnership will focus on advancing climate resilience, regenerative agriculture and landscape restoration, while supporting more sustainable and inclusive food systems.

The two organisations will also collaborate on nutrition-sensitive value chains and food environments, as well as the use of data, digital tools, artificial intelligence and innovation to strengthen agricultural development.

Climate and sustainable finance will form another area of cooperation, with the partnership seeking to support approaches that can mobilise investment for resilient and sustainable food systems.

The agreement also places emphasis on creating inclusive opportunities for smallholder farmers, women and young people, who remain central to the transformation of Africa’s agricultural and food sectors.

Through joint programming, policy engagement, knowledge exchange and technical collaboration, the Alliance and SNV will work to develop and scale solutions that respond to the challenges facing food systems while strengthening resilience and sustainability.

The two organisations said their cooperation will contribute to accelerating the transformation of agri-food systems and supporting lasting impact across Africa.
