The Digital Cooperation
Organization (DCO) is exploring deeper cooperation with Ghana to support the
country’s digital transformation ambitions, including the One Million Coders
Programme and other national digital initiatives.
DCO Secretary-General, Deemah AlYahya said she had
discussions with Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and
Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, on Ghana’s digital progress and its
ambitions for the future.
AlYahya described Ghana’s
digital agenda as ambitious, highlighting plans to train one million coders and
establish a $1 billion Innovation Hub as part of the country’s broader digital
future.
As a DCO Member State,
Ghana’s digital transformation is also reflected in its performance on the
organization’s Digital Economy Navigator. AlYahya cited a 73.1 percent
performance in digital adoption for social inclusion, alongside progress in
gender equality in digitalisation.
The discussions also covered
Ghana’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which AlYahya said she
congratulated the minister on, as well as opportunities for the DCO to provide
greater support for national initiatives.
The One Million Coders
Programme was identified as one of the areas where increased DCO cooperation
could support Ghana’s efforts to expand digital skills and strengthen
participation in the digital economy.
AlYahya said the DCO was
looking forward to deepening cooperation with Ghana and supporting efforts to
translate the country’s digital ambitions into lasting digital prosperity.
