Somalia and the United
Kingdom have held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation to support
long-term climate resilience and sustainable economic development, with
improved access to climate finance identified as a key priority.
The discussions brought
together National Climate Fund (NCF) Executive Director Liban Obsiye and a UK
delegation, with the Somali side led by Minister of Finance H.E. Bihi Iman
Egeh.
The meeting provided an
opportunity to explore how UK–Somalia cooperation can contribute to Somalia’s
efforts to build resilience and promote sustainable economic development amid
growing climate risks.
For the National Climate
Fund, expanding access to climate finance remains central to supporting
Somalia’s response to the increasing impacts of climate change.
The discussions also
highlighted the role of international partnerships in mobilising resources and
strengthening national capacity to address climate-related challenges while
supporting broader economic development objectives.
The National Climate Fund
expressed appreciation to the United Kingdom for its continued support and
partnership with Somalia as the country works to strengthen its resilience to
climate risks and advance sustainable development.
