Bank of Ghana Governor Dr
Johnson Pandit Asiama has joined the board and management of SaoPay for the
official launch of its operations as a Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI)
in Accra.
The launch took place on
Tuesday, October 7, 2026, marking SaoPay’s entry into Ghana’s digital finance
ecosystem as a dedicated electronic money issuer.
Speaking at the event,
Asiama welcomed SaoPay and emphasised the importance of innovation, trust,
customer protection and responsible growth in advancing financial inclusion.
“Every balance on a SaoPay
screen is cedis held in trust, and a promise made in your name. Keep that
promise every day,” Asiama said.
The Bank of Ghana said it
looked forward to SaoPay’s contribution to building a safe, inclusive and
trusted digital financial ecosystem for the country.
