The Alliance of Bioversity
International and CIAT has hosted a team from DIPPER Lab and the Council for
Scientific and Industrial Research-Institute for Scientific and Technological
Information (CSIR-INSTI) for a project update meeting on an artificial intelligence
(AI)-powered agricultural advisory platform for smallholder farmers in Ghana.
The meeting, held at the
Alliance’s Ghana office in Accra, focused on progress on the AI-driven cropping calendar and digital advisory platform, designed to
provide timely, data-driven agricultural advice to farmers and extension agents.
The team reviewed the
project’s implementation and objectives and discussed how AI and existing
datasets could be leveraged to improve the platform’s second version.
Discussions also explored
opportunities to strengthen the platform’s capacity to deliver relevant
agricultural information to farmers and support decision-making on cropping
activities.
The meeting brought together
Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao, Scientific Director of DIPPER Lab; Dr. Enoch Bessah,
Climate and Ecosystem Monitoring Lead; Dr. Henry Nunoo-Mensah, Programmes and
Training Lead; Dr. Wuletawu Abera, Country Representative for the Alliance of
Bioversity International and CIAT; Dr. Patricia Amankwaa-Yeboah and Grace
Asante-Yeboah Opoku, both of the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT;
and Dr. Michael Wilson of CSIR-INSTI.
The collaboration aims to
strengthen the AI-powered platform’s ability to provide relevant agricultural
advice and support farmers and extension agents in making informed decisions
about cropping activities.
