Vodacom South Africa's Chief Officer of Vodacom
Business, William Mzimba, has elected to retire from Vodacom after a five-year
tenure and will leave the company at the end of September 2023.
Commenting
on William Mzimba's departure, Sitho Mdlalose, CEO of Vodacom South Africa: "I would like to offer my gratitude to
William for his invaluable contribution in growing Vodacom Business, including
overseeing Vodacom's SmartGov initiative which saw the deployment of smart
metering solutions which improved revenue assurance for the municipalities,
citizen engagement and smart asset management. We wish William the very best
for his next chapter and will announce a successor in due course."
During
his tenure, William headed up Vodacom Business enterprise units in Africa where
he led a team tasked with driving digital transformation of businesses and
governments across several industries and markets.
More
recently, William was instrumental in the launch of "Turn To Us," a
solutions-driven programme that is a call-out to businesses of all sizes to
partner and collaborate with Vodacom Business so that we contribute towards
their success and ultimately their bottom line. He also led the diversification
of our IoT business, supported by various acquisitions, and extended its reach
to include Vodafone markets, entrenching Vodacom as a market leader in IoT.

Led
by a passion for education, William spearheaded the launch of Vodacom's
Connected Education during the pandemic lockdown, which delivered virtual
education to more than a million students. With his team, they leveraged the
Mezzanine platform to deliver COVID19 vaccinations impacting over 40 million
citizens, connected over three million farmers, and delivered e-vouchers to
support small-scale farmers.
Additionally,
William was instrumental in repositioning Vodacom's Cloud, Hosting, and Security
business where he spearheaded a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services
resulting in the creation of Vodacom Amazon Business Group. This further
fast-tracked Vodacom's drive into a fully-fledged multi-cloud provider, which
delivers cloud-first solutions.
William
holds an MBA from Bond University, BA (Honours) in Business Studies from De
Montfort University, Management Advancement Programme (MAP) from Wits, and a
Diploma in Datametrics (Computer Science) from UNISA.
