The
Office of Kenya’s Special Envoy for Climate Change has held strategic
discussions with The Rockefeller Foundation on accelerating the Africa Green
Industrialisation Initiative (AGII), as Kenya seeks to position itself at the
forefront of climate-positive economic transformation.
Ambassador
Ali met with Rajiv J. Shah during his visit to Kenya to explore partnership
frameworks aimed at mobilising climate finance and de-risking investments for
large-scale renewable energy and green industrial development across the
continent.
The
discussions centred on how the Africa Green Industrialisation Initiative can
support a structural shift in Africa’s development model toward low-carbon,
climate-resilient growth, with a focus on leveraging the continent’s
significant renewable energy potential.
A
key focus of the engagement was the role of philanthropic and development finance
institutions such as The Rockefeller Foundation in providing guarantees,
blended finance mechanisms and catalytic capital to reduce investment risk and
unlock private sector participation in Africa’s green economy.
Officials
noted that The Rockefeller Foundation has been a consistent supporter of
Kenya’s climate agenda, including contributions to the inaugural Africa Climate
Summit, and that the latest engagement builds on this ongoing collaboration.
The
Office of the Special Envoy emphasized that partnerships of this nature are
essential to translating Africa’s renewable energy endowment into industrial
growth, job creation and shared prosperity, particularly through the expansion
of green manufacturing and clean energy infrastructure.
