Cyber Week Africa 2026 has
concluded with a call for stronger collaboration, information sharing and
investment in cybersecurity skills to address emerging threats in the age of
artificial intelligence (AI).
During the closing ceremony,
Dr Martin Koyabe, Chair of the National Cyber Security Agency, emphasised the
importance of building trust among stakeholders to enable effective threat
intelligence sharing, noting that digital sovereignty does not mean digital
isolation.
He called for stronger
collaboration between regulators and industry to strengthen Africa’s cyber
resilience.
Closing the event on behalf
of government leadership, Jacob Narengo highlighted AI’s dual role in
cybersecurity, warning that while the technology can strengthen threat
detection, it can also enable sophisticated scams and cyberattacks.
He urged stakeholders to
turn existing national cybersecurity and AI strategies into practical action.
Huawei supported the event’s
capacity-building agenda, with 21 Government ICT Officers receiving
certificates after completing a Huawei-supported network training programme.
