Communication Commission has approved and issued three general licenses to ODRIP
Investment (PTY) Limited, Starlink Eswatini (PTY) Limited and Micro IT
Solutions (PTY) Limited to operate as new Internet Service Providers in the
country.
According
to the commission in a brief statement on its social media Linkedin platform,
this brings the number of licensed ISPs to 23.
At a brief
ceremony to present the new 3 ISPs with their licensing certificates, the ESCCOM
Chief Executive Officer, Mvilawemphi Dlamini urged the newly licensed IPSs to
follow regulations and ensure that they provide competitive, affordable and
secure services.
He reaffirmed
the Commission’s commitment to the development of Eswatini’s communication
sector.
The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) is the
regulatory body responsible for regulating the communications sector in
Eswatini, constituting telecommunication services and networks, broadcasting
services, postal services and the use and allocation of radio spectrum. It
derives its mandate from the Swaziland Communications Commission Act no. 10 of
2013.
The Commission became operational on the 31st of July 2013,
effectively taking over all the regulatory powers of the sector from the
Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (EPTC) and Eswatini
Television Authority (Eswatini TV).
