The African
Telecommunications Union (ATU) will invite the International Telecommunication
Satellite Organisation (ITSO) to participate as an observer in the Fourth
African Preparatory Meeting for the World Radiocommunication Conference 2027
(WRC-27), as the two organisations seek to deepen cooperation on satellite and
radiocommunication issues affecting Africa’s connectivity agenda.
The development followed a
bilateral meeting between ATU Secretary General John Omo and ITSO Director
General Dr Renata Brazil David on the final day of ITSO’s 42nd Assembly of
Parties in Washington, D.C.
According to ATU, the
meeting provided an opportunity for the two leaders to acknowledge the cordial
relationship their organisations have built over the years and discuss ways to
strengthen their collaboration.
The proposed participation
of ITSO in the African preparatory meeting is intended to support engagement on
satellite and radiocommunication matters as African stakeholders continue
developing regional positions ahead of WRC-27.
The conference provides a
global forum for addressing radiocommunication issues, making regional
coordination an important part of the preparations.
ATU described the meeting as
an opportunity to build on the existing relationship between the organisations
and sustain cooperation on issues central to Africa’s connectivity priorities.
