South Africa’s Department of
Science, Technology and Innovation (DSTI) has reaffirmed its commitment to
developing strategic research infrastructure as the DSTI-NRF Centre for High
Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy marks 15 years of supporting the
country’s scientific research capabilities.
DSTI Director-General Dr
Mlungisi Cele delivered the keynote address at the International Scientific
Workshop on Recent Advances and Future Prospects in Aberration-Corrected
Transmission Electron Microscopy, hosted at Nelson Mandela University’s Science
Centre in Gqeberha.
The event celebrated the
Centre’s 15-year milestone and highlighted its role in enhancing South Africa’s
research infrastructure.
Dr Cele acknowledged the
vision and long-term commitment that enabled the Centre’s establishment, while
reiterating the department’s dedication to developing strategic research
infrastructure.
He also emphasised the
importance of continued investment in supporting South Africa’s scientific
leadership and strengthening its potential for collaboration on the global
stage.
Dr Cele urged participants
to use the workshop discussions to build partnerships, inspire emerging
scientists and advance the field of electron microscopy.
The department congratulated
the Centre on reaching the milestone.
