Kenya is exploring new
opportunities to strengthen collaboration with its diaspora community as part
of efforts to accelerate the country's digital transformation agenda and expand
its technology ecosystem.
Principal Secretary for the
State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, held
discussions with Dr. Martin Koyabe, Senior Advisor for Africa at the Global
Forum on Cyber Expertise (GFCE), on ways to leverage diaspora expertise and
global partnerships to support Kenya’s digital ambitions.
The meeting focused on
enhancing diaspora engagement in key areas including artificial intelligence,
emerging technologies, cybersecurity, digital skills development and the growth
of the Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sector.
According to Tanui, the
discussions also explored strategies for harnessing international expertise,
investment networks and collaborative partnerships to drive innovation and
strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading digital economy in Africa.
The engagement forms part of
broader efforts by the government to attract global talent and expertise while
creating opportunities for job creation, technology transfer and private sector
growth.
Officials noted that
stronger collaboration with the Kenyan diaspora could play a significant role
in supporting digital innovation, expanding investment opportunities and
accelerating the implementation of national digital transformation initiatives.
