The
International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and SES Satellites have reaffirmed
their collaboration aimed at advancing meaningful connectivity, digital
inclusion, and improved communication support for humanitarian response
efforts.
The
Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, Cosmas Zavazava, held
discussions with SES CEO Adel Al Saleh in Luxembourg, focusing on joint
initiatives to expand internet access to rural and underserved communities.
The
partnership is currently supporting a project expected to connect 100 schools
across Africa, the Americas, and the Asia-Pacific region, with the goal of
improving access to digital learning resources and strengthening educational
inclusion.
According
to the ITU, the collaboration also plays a key role in enhancing connectivity
solutions that can be deployed during emergencies to support humanitarian
operations and ensure continuity of essential services.
Both
parties further explored additional areas of cooperation aimed at scaling
inclusive digital development and bridging the global connectivity gap.
