The
Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has announced that its
Department of Computer Engineering has secured a grant from the Google DeepMind
AI Research Foundation to strengthen artificial intelligence education,
research, and capacity building.
The
grant is expected to support advanced AI training programmes for faculty
members, teaching assistants, students, and community learners, enhancing
skills development and research output in emerging technologies.
The
university congratulated key contributors to the achievement, including Dr.
Samuel Danso, Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, Dr. Isaac Osei
Nyantakyi of the same department, and Prof. Ebenezer Malcolm, Acting
Vice-Chancellor and Pro Vice-Chancellor, for their leadership and commitment to
academic excellence.
According
to GCTU, the grant reinforces its position as a leading institution in
innovation and emerging technologies, while also contributing to the
development of a new generation of AI professionals in Ghana.
The
university noted that the initiative aligns with its broader mission of
advancing research, innovation, and digital skills development to support both
national and global technology ecosystems.
