The Rwanda Space Agency has
signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Air and Space
Law at McGill University to strengthen capacity building and promote knowledge
exchange in space law, policy and governance.
The agreement marks a
significant step in Rwanda's efforts to develop a robust legal and regulatory
framework for its growing space sector. Through the partnership, the two
institutions will collaborate on initiatives aimed at enhancing expertise in
space governance and supporting the development of policies that align with
international best practices.
According to the Rwanda
Space Agency, the collaboration will focus on building local capacity in key
areas of space law and regulation while facilitating the exchange of knowledge
between experts, researchers and policymakers.
The partnership is also
expected to contribute to the creation of an enabling regulatory environment
for private sector participation in the space industry. By strengthening legal
and governance frameworks, Rwanda aims to attract investment, encourage innovation
and support the sustainable growth of its space ecosystem.
The Institute of Air and
Space Law at McGill University is internationally recognized for its expertise
in aviation and space law education and research. Its collaboration with the
Rwanda Space Agency reflects growing international cooperation in support of
emerging space nations seeking to strengthen their institutional and regulatory
capabilities.
The agreement comes as
Rwanda continues to expand its space ambitions through investments in satellite
technology, earth observation applications and policies designed to leverage
space technologies for national development.
Officials said the
partnership will play an important role in advancing Rwanda's capacity to
govern and regulate space activities while fostering a conducive environment
for innovation and private sector growth in the country's space sector.
