Jumia Group has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, highlighting a series of initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint and promoting greener operations across Africa.

Marking World Environment Day, the e-commerce company outlined efforts being implemented in several African markets to support a more sustainable digital economy.

Among the initiatives, Jumia noted that its warehouse operations in Côte d’Ivoire are being powered by solar energy, while delivery operations in Uganda are benefiting from the adoption of electric bicycles as part of efforts to reduce emissions associated with last-mile logistics.

The company also reported the implementation of waste-sorting programmes in Senegal to improve waste management practices and encourage recycling within its operations.

In addition, Jumia is promoting its refurbished products category, an initiative designed to extend product lifecycles, reduce electronic waste, and provide consumers with more sustainable purchasing options.

According to the company, these measures form part of a broader strategy to integrate environmental responsibility into its business operations while supporting sustainable economic growth across the continent.

Jumia stated that collective action by businesses, consumers, and stakeholders will be essential to building a greener and more sustainable future for Africa.
